"Let us gather around our children and give them the security that can only come from association with adults who mean what they say and share in deeds which are broadcast in words."
- Howard Thurman
As the only juvenile unit of the statewide public defender agency, YAP recognizes its responsibility to provide support and resources to the juvenile defense bar and children's advocacy community. YAP therefore works closely with the Massachusetts private bar, child advocates of all kinds, local law schools, national advocacy organizations, and other units of our parent organization, the Committee for Public Counsel Services.
The Youth Advocacy Project strives to directly assist lawyers in many ways. YAP provides legal representation and advocacy in Boston's juvenile and criminal courts and can assist attorneys by serving as a resource in matters relating to the juvenile justice system. YAP takes advice calls and can refer attorneys to a list of experts and community based programs that may assist lawyers in client representation.
"Youth Advocacy Project attorneys make vigorous defense and quality representation not just an aspiration but a one by one, client by client statement in the halls of the juvenile court that each and every youth in trouble deserves excellence in advocacy."
- Tony DeMarco, Esq., Director, Suffolk University Law School Juvenile Justice Center
