For Youth

How can YAP help YOU?

"If it wasn't for YAP, I wouldn't be working and in school right now. I'd be in jail." Former YAP client, age 18

YAP is available to help young people in many ways. Here are just a few:

If you are under 17 years old, indigent (unable to hire a lawyer because of financial constraints), and are charged as a delinquent or a youthful offender, YAP can offer you legal representation and advocacy. Learn more about how we can help by visiting our Programs & Services page or looking at Frequently Asked Questions.

If you would like to learn more about your rights, the laws affecting juveniles, the Juvenile Court Process and the Massachusetts Juvenile Justice System, YAP can teach you and your friends. Learn more about our Know the Law workshops.

Also download our informational sheets below.

"Now That You're In Juvenile Court..." (in .pdf format) explains how the court process work for juveniles. This sheet includes the roles of the prosecutor, probation officer, lawyer and judge as well as the process of arraignment.

Available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Khmer, Somali, & Vietnamese.

"Now That You're On Probation..." (in .pdf format) explains the responsiblities of the probationer and includes tips for staying out of DYS after the term of probation has been completed. Please feel free to download these as well.

Available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Khmer, Somali, & Vietnamese.

YAP can help you find the services and programs you need to have a positive future. For those of you who live outside of Suffolk County, YAP can also assist you in finding help in your own city and town. Email or call us with your questions.
