Number and Type of Cases Handled by YAP Attorneys
In 2004-2005, YAP attorneys
handled
838 delinquency and youthful offender cases for a total of
309 children. 468 (52%) of the cases were felony charges, while 291 (38%) were
misdemeanors. 79 (10%)
of the cases were opened as violations of the terms of probation/parole of previous cases. This
does not take into account instances in which children were violated on the terms of their
probation on cases in which a YAP attorney handled the original offense.

and Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC)
are of utmost concern to YAP. In 2004-2005, 93% of YAP's clients were
children of color.
